Hogtown, here we come

Got the go-ahead to go to Hogtown this weekend!  I’m kind of ridiculously excited about it because we haven’t been back in so long.  Even better, one of our other college friends who no longer lives in town is coming in for the weekend, too!  *does the happy dance*

That really goes a long way toward making up for the fact that I had to drop a couple hundred bucks on my car today (it needed new brake pads before the trip; found out when Southern Honey took it in for an oil change) and ended up spending two hundred dollars more than intended on a lawn mower.  It was kind of an expensive day.

We found a lawn mower at one WalMart that was considerably cheaper than the others, so we decided to go with it.  Although Southern Honey didn’t get a good look at the specs on it.  So we got together with some friends who have a truck with a trailer this afternoon to go pick it up at a different WalMart.  Which didn’t carry the darned thing.  So we went to a third (the original WalMart is close to our house but not close to Topper Town, where our friends live).  Which also didn’t carry it.

At that point, we were frustrated, so we ended up buying the cheapest one that that WalMart had: A Yard-Man 12.5 hp with a 38″ cutting deck.  After we got it home, I got online and found out that, despite the extra $200 it cost us, we got the better deal.  The cheaper mower had a horrible customer service rating and a tiny cutting deck — 26″.  It didn’t even have a horsepower rating available, but one dissatisfied customer noted that he had a small hill in his yard  that he couldn’t get the cheap mower up.  That would have been a total dealbreaker for us since part of the yard slopes off a bit.

So we’re $1100 poorer tonight, but it was money well-spent, as we can now make the yard look less like a jungle and more like someone who cares occupies our house, and we don’t have to worry about the brake pads going out on the drive to and from Hogtown this weekend.

Now I’m just ready for it to be Thursday!

Heh, the only days I’m ever $1100 poorer is when I pay rent and my credit card bill on the same day. 🙂 I feel you, though, on the spending lots of money all at once, even though it’s on stuff you need, and it’s actually not a bad deal. It still hurts to see it go. 😛

Have fun on your weekend trip!

Thank you for reminding me to pay the mortgage! 😀 I swear, if my brain weren’t firmly ensconced in my skull, I’d forget IT somewhere, too!

Can’t wait for Thursday. Just one more day…
